When cropping margins helps
Papers and reports often have wide margins, which makes text look small on a phone or tablet. Trimming the margins lets the text appear larger on the same screen, so it’s easier to read.
It’s also useful for removing shadows or unwanted edges around scanned documents.
Two ways to crop
Automatic (detect and trim margins)
Finds the area of each page that has content and trims the white margins around it. Choose how much margin to keep: none, a little (2mm) or normal (5mm). With “Trim every page to the same area”, all pages end up the same size.
Manual (set in mm)
Enter how much to trim from the top, right, bottom and left in millimeters. Useful when you want to trim a fixed amount from every page.
Quality stays the same
Only the visible area of each page changes, with no image re-compression. Quality doesn’t change, and text can still be selected and searched.
Note: the trimmed area stays in the file
Cropping changes what’s shown, so the trimmed content still remains inside the PDF. To permanently remove confidential information, use a proper redaction method instead.
