When you need a digital hanko

In Japan, hanko seals are still used on many business documents. As remote work and paperless offices spread, more quotes, invoices and internal approval forms are exchanged as PDFs. Being able to stamp a PDF directly saves printing it, stamping it by hand and scanning it again.

Stamps you can create

Name stamp (round)

A typical mitome-in: your name written vertically inside a round frame. 1–4 characters fit best; with 4 characters, they’re arranged in two vertical columns, right column first. Names in Latin letters are written across the circle.

Date stamp

A stamp with a department or similar on the top line, the date in the middle and a name on the bottom line. Choose a Western date (2026.09.26) or a Japanese era date (R8.09.26). Date stamps are used to show that a document has been checked or circulated in an office.

Design options

  • Typeface: Mincho (serif) or Gothic (sans-serif)
  • Color: vermilion (shu) or red
  • Size (diameter): 10.5mm to 21mm
  • Faded ink effect: adds slight gaps in the ink, like a real stamp

Stamp a PDF or use it as an image

Select a PDF and tap a page to place the stamp there. Drag a placed stamp to move it, or remove it with “×”. You can stamp several pages.

The downloaded PNG has a transparent background, so it won’t hide text when you paste it into Word, Excel or PDF software.

Note: legal effect

The stamp created here is an image of a seal. It’s different from an electronic signature, which proves who signed. For contracts and other documents that need legal proof, use an electronic signature service or follow the recipient’s instructions. Whether digital stamps are accepted for internal documents depends on your company’s rules.

Your PDF is never uploaded

Both creating the stamp and stamping the PDF happen in your browser. Your name and the contents of your PDF are never sent anywhere. The stamp uses the Japanese fonts installed on your device.
